Madeline's Angels offers services in 3 different areas, Senior Citizens/Retiree's (Veterans), Food Assistance and Homeless Assistance.
Senior Citizens/Retiree's It is assumed that senior citizens are eligible and can receive benefits from social programs. It is also assumed that seniors can receive meals through programs like Meals On Wheels.
Nursing needs such as nurse visits and physical therapy are covered by insurance only during the recovery phase or as prescribed by the patients doctor. And domestic needs such as bathing, house cleaning, laundry services are sometimes covered by insurance or through social programs. Again insurance usually covers things through the recovery period not after or can be ordered by a doctor. And most social programs have income requirements that must be met in order to receive these services.
After the recovery period, a retiree or veteran is left to coordinate and afford these services on their own, at their own expense. I became aware of all this when my mother went through emergency heart surgery in December 2019.
It is the mission of Madeline's Angels to fill in the gaps of those services that a person recovering from major surgery or disabled may not be eligible for because of their retirement or disability compensation level. They may not have the necessary funds on a fixed income to afford such services even though the guidelines of some programs say they do.
Food Assistance In several areas in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas, there are communities where there are no restaurants or grocery stores. Franchises and grocery chains see these areas as less profitable and have pulled out leaving a void of food sources for these particular communities.
Madeline's Angels aims to provide in these areas accessibility to food with the creation of food pantry's and soup kitchens. These services would help fill the void created by the absence of food chains or grocery stores in these areas.
It is our hope to foster an environment that is conducive and leads to fellowship in these communities.
Phase 2
Homeless Assistance Madeline's Angels aims to create a center of operation that would help the homeless have necessary items like blankets, clothes and food.
Some of the food would come from the food pantry and soup kitchens. Other food sources would come through coordination with other food sources and donations that would help individuals in the short term.
Madeline's Angels would also establish shelters in certain areas and help those in need coordinate social services benefits in an effort to help the homeless find a home and employment.
This program would also seek to help those who have addictions or mental health issues through peer support counseling in coordination with the local county Alcohol, Drug, Addiction and Mental Health Service (ADAMHS) programs offered by the county in which Madeline's Angels resides.
Our goal in all the areas mentioned above is not to duplicate services but enhance opportunities and awareness of these services.
